Libertarians have done only slightly better, but the Republican Party is doing far worse. There is hope on the horizon as folks flock away from the corruption of both the Democrat and Republican Incumbents. for the CA Assembly District 4 I and our treasurer, Robert Page, have been representing the Placer County Libertarian Party at County high schools for the last 5 years. We usually beat the national averages on registrations at these events. In fact, this year, we got 4% of the registrations while even tying the Republicans in Lincoln! In part, Bush's ratings loss is our gain. When the County allowed Jim Holmes, the Republican County Supervisorial Representative, to aid Kirk Uhler while two other Republican aides assisted in the background, doubling the Republican speaking time at Del Oro, we got creamed in a what is usually a Libertarian favorable school. There are subtle advantages given to Republicans in the Voter Outreach program, and I am pretty sure they are not conscious ones. Despite imbalances, due to Republican domination in support of the developers that fund their campaigns, I've been successfully pushing Decline to State as a better alternative to registering Republican. This has been immensely successful, even at Del Oro, and I think the teachers have endorsed this idea as well. Decline to States (DTS) have accounted for a whopping 43% of registrations. For some reason, Roseville statistics were botched so I don't know how well we did there. Libertarians have to be vigilant because Republican politicians are going to fight like hell for their donors to show no decrease in their power. We have to keep all officials straight by drawing attention to any favoritism they may show for Republicans. Unfortunately, this is a monumental task. Most County employees either directly or indirectly, have their jobs at the pleasure of Republican incumbents. If you don't get the County workers on our side, and there are already some, you won't win the elections. Placer County has the highest percentage of Republicans in the state. That could be finally changing with the recent evidence of Republican national corruption and their lack of Christian values and ethics among their incumbents. Make sure that when you talk to Republican voters, they also understand the Decline to State alternative. In this County, Republicans pay for registrations. I'd like to see them lose a lot of money doing this by reconverting these registrations into at least Decline to States. Republicans no longer ignore Libertarians in Placer County. They are having a very hard time publicly laughing at us. In fact, they now get mad at us. This is a very good sign. According to Gandhi, the next step is that we win some elections. With your help, we can teach our principles leading to a Libertarian decision in the future. Having a Libertarian City Council and County Board of Supervisors can make this County more informed and responsible. It can lead to much less socialism and more less support for world empire building. Better yet, it can lead to true representation of those that actually live in the county instead of representation of the developers and special interests that have plagued the county by massively over funding political campaigns of Republican politicians. What Republicans need to know is that they are now taxed without representation, just like we Libertarians. If they espouse old fashioned Republican values, they'll be much better off with a Libertarian in office. The trick is getting them informed and showing them evidence of our success such as this table. Please help me in this important metamorphosis. Let's turn this worm into a butterfly.
