State Bills introduced by Ted Gaines since he arrived in the Assembly.

1. AB 1227 - Gaines
* Transportation funding: cities and counties. Ted's asking to apply voter approved transportation money through the sale of bonds that will encumber future generations to areas affected by tourism and snow removal so that they get their due attention.
2. AB 254 - Gaines
* Vehicles: total loss salvage vehicles. Ted's an insurance guy. As an owner, I believe he still profits from Point West Insurance. Still there doesn't appear to be much to the technical change in the wording of the old Vehicle code.
3. AB 1196 - Gaines
* Flamethrowing devices.A minor law that allows folks under fire department employment to not carry a permit.
4. AB 424 - Gaines
* Wetlands mitigation banking: notice. This is actually a good idea. Notice would be required to be given to affected counties and cities before a wetlands mitigation bank is approved. This obviously helps Ted's Developer friends that gave so profusely to his campaign by putting a road block in the way of wetland preservation. You see, most Placer County and City officials receive contributions from the same "gang." Still, it is only reasonable that the Feds and State notify these entities so that they can debate the formation of such banks.
5. AB 1301 - Gaines
* Financial institutions: deposits. It looks like this is deregulation of where a company can move money between companies that it owns by taking away some governmental authority.
6. AB 248 - Gaines
* Vehicles: violations: punishment.Gives judges the ability to punish reckless drivers and folks that race on public streets as felons.
7. AB 678 - Gaines
* Crimes: fleeing the scene of an accident. Adds 5 years in jail.
8. AB 542 - Gaines
* State Historical Building Safety Board: membership is expanded to include a representative from building owners and managers.
9. AB 1072 - Gaines
* Health care coverage: California Health Insurance - Keeps the government from limiting health care choices.
10. ACA 3 - Gaines
* Expenditure limits. This is a bill that will have to be approved by voters that changes the state constitution and affects Education.

Michael Patrick Murphy, 2006 Libertarian Candidate for the CA Assembly District 4
26th of February, 2007

On the way to Starbucks I listened as Kofi Annan, the ex-Secretary General of the United Nations chastised the free world for not being generous enough with the third world. Later in the day, John Doolittle gave us his first Town hall meeting that would be duplicated that evening by CA Assemblyman Ted Gaines at the "Auburn Domes."

All proposed a late Christmas for somebody, even if it meant using the ol' charge cards. For whatever reason, the plastic just won't wear out. Redistribution of our wealth is in full swing and none of these guys has a clue how we're supposed to pay it all back. It's a Communist Christmas for Christian Socialists.

It won't be the first time that this happened as history has numerous stories of previous attempts by government of all sizes trying to murder economies for the benefit of a few select individuals.

Kofi Annan begs for more money

First, it is my understanding that the free world did not follow through on their commitments to give aid to the third world. How can the United Nations manage a budget without promised income. Still, in Kofi Annan's case, one has to wonder what planet he's been living on. Even after all of his experience, he STILL doesn't seem to understand the AID business. While I agree that aid may be more appropriate than selling arms to these countries, it still results in the same kind of thing. If a country is having a civil war, supplying food relieves combatants of the need to supply food to their own and frees up money for the purchase of more weapons. Kofi should know better. It is not the job of free world governments to do this. If individuals or private organizations want to donate their time and money, then more power to them. They will be more efficient and slightly less prone to corruption if they go in with their eyes wide open.

Of course we also have the disarmament crowd still asking to buy back weapons. A friend was explaining to me just this past week how we had offered so much money to collect cheap weapons that folks would kill others for their weapons–working or broken, raising the body count in order to sell the guns and grenades to the weapons collectors at a profit. Then they would take the money and buy even more weapons on the black market. Each time we destroyed another cache of weapons, it meant more demand for new weapons. Weapons manufacturers loved this.

In my opinion, the United Nations should offer a place to negotiate between belligerent nations. It should help maintain current borders. Beyond that, I think the United Nations tries to do too much. Let's hope that Sheikha Haya leads us away from doing so many things badly so it can focus on fewer and more successful missions as I prescribed.

John Doolittle's Town Hall Meeting, February 23, 2007

John Doolittle brought his own list of social thoughts and answers to his first Town hall meeting. He seems to finally admit that things haven't gone so well in Iraq. That's putting it mildly. Prince John seems to have no concept of the financial cost, both present and future, including the care for returning warriors. Loyal Republicans are probably happy when he brings home some highway pork now and again. Remember, the Federal Government took that money from us in the first place, crippling our own ability to fix our own infrastructure and making us more and more dependent on Federal subsidies. That's kind of an insult when one considers that California gives the Federal government 20 percent of its budget even though we represent only 2 percent of the states. We get far less in return. Doolittle started off the meeting by insulting third parties and independents by recognizing only Democrats and Republicans. While spending so much money, he still favors reducing taxes. While any accountant might think him a madman, he appears quite comfortable with the idea. How can he request more spending while reducing taxes? You and I realize that it will mean more borrowing with no thought given as to when the lending nations might turn off the financial spigot. The Prince wants to assure that all Americans get medical coverage. How does he do that without spending more money? He wants to build more prisons adding to what is already the largest per capita prison population in the free world. Still more money! Of course Doolittle still wants to build the Auburn Dam. I don't know where Prince John thinks the money is going to come from, but perhaps I should warn the kids to leave the country, a surefire way for them to get out of the $500,000 debt being passed onto their future families. Of course the rest of the world wants only our best and brightest leaving the remainder at home in the U.S. New reports on the national reading and math scores define us as rating 27th in the free world and falling fast! Face it, we follow the example of our president who is talented enough to read books upside down!

Ted Gaines' Town Hall Meeting, February 23, 2007

Later, at Ted's Town Hall, I told him that he spent so much money as a Supervisor that I asked how he planned to be different as an assemblyman? He explained that he always maintained a balanced budget as a Supervisor (not a hard thing to do during such an upsurge in revenue from property and sales taxes). He jumped ship right when the budget looked like it was beginning to head south. Perfect timing! Ted explained that the county's money was somewhat fixed and that he could affect more thrift at the state level. On Ted's behalf, he gave us all plenty of opportunity to ask questions. I was able to ask him four good ones. One gentleman caused him to abuse the truth when he asked why he didn't show up for the interviews during his campaign. He told him that he did show up. With that, I couldn't contain myself and so I rose, told everyone that I was his opponent during the race and asked Ted, "Which ones did you show up for? I didn't see you in Tahoe, Newcastle, Loomis or any other of the 15 to 20 forums. He said he was in Rocklin, where was I. Of course I wasn't invited to that one, only he and the Democratic candidate. So he got caught in a little lie. Lucky for him that the public is quick to forget.

Perhaps the public's ability to forget is the theme that will save these three leaders' reputations. We are not paying attention to them, or to history and have so many excuses for our lack of responsibility that I am not shocked that we have our 911's and Katrinas. We are never pro-active, never prepared and almost never responsible. We don't hold our elected officials responsible. We leave that to the courts controlled by those that they appoint or "permit" to hold office. Americans, especially Republican and Democrat apologists, get exactly the type of government they deserve as evidenced by these three officials. They open the doors to disaster and corruption, both at home and abroad, then act horrified and amazed when disaster strikes. Sadly, taxed without representation, I get what they deserve, too!
