Chair The two business owners that came to the regular Council Meeting no doubt were very concerned that they would not get to build their new gas station since the City Planning Commision had already determined that the "use" would be inappropriate to the area. They had little hope. After all, the City Council had seldom, if ever, overturned the City Planning Commission's decisions. The two Indian American gentlemen watched as their attorney, Marcus Lo Duca pled their case before the Council. He was calm, reasonable and respectful towards the City Council. He knew the absolute power they held over his clients fate. Then the neighbors came in to speak against allowing the station to be built. It seems they may have preferred a Juice bar. Even the owner of an existing gas station across the street came in trying to thwart future competition. I listened carefully to the facts. The owners bought the land which consisted of a chainlinked dirt lot where a past gas station had been. It was properly zoned for a gas station and had actually been previously approved for a gas station for these same owners. I had heard enough and took my turn to speak out against the tyranny of the majority. By the time the Council voted three to one in favor of the station, the owners realized the impact my talk had. It was my hand they both shook after the council session was closed. As a Libertarian, I felt good about actually seeing some results despite the socialist redistribution of the wealth tendancies of our community and leadership. Of course the neo-conservative, council supporting rag called the Placer Herald didn't print a word I said, the author, Brenda Meadows had to know what happend that night. However, she also must know who butters her bread and made sure that this Libertarian's words would not be printed. Such is the incipid bias of our media conglomerate owned press which will never fully represent our community while under the control of Brehm communications. So that American Liberty aware residents can hear "the rest of the story," I will elaborate on what was printed by the paper. Make no mistake, had I not spoken, I believe the Council would have gone along with the planning commission and Basati, Inc would have not been able to use their land for the gas station they intended. I looked at the Council and the people seated in the audience and let them all know how appauled I was. "Is this America, I asked?" Put yourselves in this man's shoes. How would you like it if you researched the zoning and bought some land to build a gas station in the same place one had once stood. How would you like it if your neighbors told you you couldn't fix up your yard, put in a pool or add a spa, even though when you bought the place you correctly assumed that you could do such things? If you keep this up, you'll all be tying each other's shoe laces to each other's shoes. If some of you don't want a gas station there, then put your money where your mouth is and form a coop and buy the land yourself. Then you can put up whatever you like (providing your other neighbors don't use the tyranny of the majority to stop you). Remember, this used to be America." The Placer Herald, in its constant neo-conservative support of the City Council, printed none of this.
